Exhaustion

I’ve fought, and fought, and fought,

Exhaustion, never-ending, and for naught,

with its ups and downs,

and even cliches abound,

in the end, destruction comes,

again and again, time to rebuild,

I forgot the conundrums,

and the sadness killed,

I’ve made my way all the way up,

But now I’ve blown up, and I’m tumbling down,

The end nears, depression takes the crown,

But losing, to an odd degree,

Leaves me with a sigh of relief.

In the annual Krispy Kreme Challenge at FSU, runners and donut lovers unite- making necessary the presence of Medical First Responders and an interesting coloring on the sides of the racetrack throughout campus.

On Sunday, April 7, the ‘Fun Run’ took place at 9 am. Students and Tallahassee community members gathered to meet the challenge. Racers would start out with 2 miles. Once they reached the mid-point of the race, each racer consumed a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts and finish out with two miles to go. Those who chose not to do the challenge ate one donut before the race and ran the four miles straight through.

There were three water stations; one at Dorman, Westcott, and one located directly in the middle of the race across the street from the circus. At these areas, participants were able to take a breather and prepare themselves for the rest of the race.
The money earned from the race is to be distributed among various registered student organizations across the FSU campus.

Kristen Dimas, Student United Way President, was pleased to report this year’s event a success.

“This was our big event, and it was successful,” said Dimas. “I’m very happy with the outcome, it turned out really great. We tried to make sure that every station was manned at all times, and that everything ran smoothly. The FSUPD made sure that people were safe and the First Responders made sure that people were okay with the donuts, and that while they were puking they weren’t choking.

Participants received prizes along with the well-deserved donuts, Kelly-Ann Fasano, Student United Way Advisor, was very grateful to the sponsors because of their contributions to the event’s success.

“Krispy Kreme is our title sponsor; they’ve donated all the donuts here today,” said Fasano. “They have truly been unbelievable to work with. It’s really been a great partnership this year. They gave us the boxes where we put all the other sponsors’ stuff in, like the coupons from Chik-fil-A, Fun Station along with a Challenge T-shirt.”
Fasano explained the process for what led up to the event that took place Sunday, already in retrospect in planning for next year’s.

“We pretty much start next year today, said Fasano. “Like, we’re having a powwow later today to talk about what went well, and what could have gone a lot better, which we get from the feedback of the race community. So, I would say that we start hardcore planning in October, like handling logistical things and advertising.”

Brandon Herrera, Race Director, expressed Student United Way’s goals for the Challenge next year.

“This year’s been really good, but hopefully next year we can get more people,” said Herrera. “Every year we really want to improve. This year’s participation was about the same as last year’s. We had about 300-350 people come out. The goal is to get to a point where we compete in numbers with the original one at NC State, where they fill up with thousands of participants.”

This year’s first place challenger winner, Clint Dunn, will have his picture framed and hung in the local Tallahassee Krispy Kreme, a new tradition specific to FSU’s event.

Lucas Santini reiterated what most of the runners thought of the event.
“The event was a ton of fun,” said Santini. “I can’t wait to beat my time next year.”

If there’s any philosophy I want to live by, it’s this one.  This is the essence of life.  It’s not just going through the motions, not merely understanding your capabilities, but exposing your potential.  I want to go beyond that. If you want to be remembered, there’s more to it than just accepting a fate, accepting a way of life.  It’s the way in which you adapt yourself, find yourself, and sometimes even to point where you exploit yourself, where you find everything both thrilling and horrifying about yourself.  It’s beyond the point of acceptance, it’s where you define yourself.  That’s the point of all this.  I want to define myself, my life by exploring all the possibilities; and that’s what I’ve stumbled upon.  It’s essential that we all learn to do this; it was imperative to our evolution as humans; not to deny possibilities, but to find their uses, and push our species in the next cycle, the new age.  So this is where I am.  I’m doing this because I know that I need to be in order to be successful.  I’m an aspiring journalist and otherwise writer by other means.  I enjoy literature, fashion, politics, science (to varying degrees), and media. The purpose of this blog is in me beginning the attempt to find myself, express myself, live outside my comfort zone, and establish a foundation for me within the media world.  I hope this blog accomplishes that for me, and I will strive to make something meaningful for any potential viewers.
